Buying Melamine Equipment Overseas: Site Preparation, Trials and Handover

An overseas melamine equipment purchase needs more than a machine specification. Once the equipment direction is clear, tableware manufacturers can work with Han Chang on site access, utilities, mold trials and handover responsibilities. Preparing these items in stages helps avoid installation delays caused by mismatched power supplies, unavailable molds or insufficient working space.

Agreeing responsibilities for equipment supply, site preparation, trials and handover gives an overseas purchase a clear working plan. Include installation, training, transport and after-sales items in the project quotation, then coordinate each step as delivery approaches.

At quotation and order: define what is included

Tie the specification to the agreed tableware, compound and mold. List platen size, opening daylight, stroke, tonnage, heating capacity, hydraulic configuration, controls, guarding and maintenance access. Identify whether preheating, edge grinding, polishing and decal-paper drying equipment are included or quoted separately.

If the project calls for dual-color bodies, decals or a different part-removal method, discuss the intended result before the machine configuration is finalized. Allowing space for automation does not mean automatic take-out is included, and a future retrofit should not be assumed. You can still begin an inquiry with a product photo, intended use or material name; a complete engineering package is not needed for the first conversation.

Before shipment: prepare access and utilities

Use the actual machine dimensions and weight to plan unloading, handling and positioning. Review doors, aisles, lifting arrangements and floor-loading requirements. Provide the site voltage, frequency, phase and available electrical capacity, then agree the connection requirements for the selected configuration. Prepare cooling or other utilities where the equipment requires them rather than assuming every installation is identical.

Map the working areas for charging, decal application, glazing powder, part removal, trimming, mold staging and maintenance. The layout should support those tasks.

During trials: compare samples under recorded conditions

Melamine compound flows and cures in a heated mold. Charge condition, the delay between preheating and loading, and venting affect the finish. Before a trial, agree on the material, mold, appearance reference and dimensions to be checked. A new factory without a finished mold can discuss equipment first and arrange trial details later.

Compare the first part, consecutive parts and samples from different cavities. Record charge weights, mold cleanliness, venting, platen temperature and holding conditions alongside bubbles, flash, color differences and removal marks. One good-looking sample is not a substitute for repeat production observations. Discuss output and cycle time together with the compound, cavity count, staffing and finishing operations included.

At handover: agree documentation, spares and support

Agree the operating and maintenance documents, training topics, mold-change procedure, recommended spares and the information needed when reporting a fault. Overseas site visits, travel costs, warranty terms and service arrangements belong in the project agreement rather than being assumed from a general service description.

Delivery and handover questions

Can we discuss delivery while the factory is still being planned?

Yes. Begin with the tableware you want to make, its intended use or the material. Site layout, utilities, mold information and samples can be added during selection, quotation and pre-shipment preparation.

Does an acceptable trial sample confirm daily output?

No. Output also depends on repeat production, compound, cavity count, cycle time, loading and removal labor, and finishing operations. Agree these conditions as well as sample appearance and dimensions.

Are overseas installation and repairs always included in the machine price?

No single arrangement applies to every purchase. Equipment supply, installation responsibilities, training, spares, site-visit costs and warranty terms should be defined in the project quotation and agreement.
